Irish CSO Livestock Slaughterings Review July 2012
Cattle Slaughterings Decreased by 3.3% in July
The number of cattle slaughtered in July 2012 was 3.3% lower than in July 2011.
A further comparison of July 2012 and July 2011 slaughtering figures also shows
that
- Sheep slaughterings increased by 7.9%.
- Pig slaughterings increased by 8.6%.
The number of cattle slaughtered in January-July 2012 was 13.1% lower than the
corresponding 2011 period. Over the same period there was an increase of 5.6%
in sheep slaughterings and an increase of 6.6% in pig slaughterings.
Comparing EU figures for the periods January-May 2012 and January-May
2011, Ireland showed a 7.8% increase in sheep slaughterings while of the major
EU sheep producing countries, Greece, France, the United Kingdom and Spain
recorded decreases of 6.3%, 3.1%, 2.6% and 1.9% respectively.
