Agricultural operating surplus up by 4.6% in 2014

The CSO's final estimate of operating surplus in agriculture in 2014 shows an annual increase of 4.6%.

This follows an increase of 4.1% in 2013. The rise in operating surplus in 2014 can be mainly attributed to a decrease of 9.9% in the value of total intermediate consumption, primarily relating to expenditure on commercial feeding stuffs (-17.9%).

Further comparison of 2014 to 2013 shows the following changes in estimated values

  • Goods output at producer prices decreased by 5.3% or €390m with output valued at €7,000m
  • Cattle output decreased by 6.5% or €140m
