USDA Dairy Products February 2012 Highlights
Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 858 million pounds, 6.2 percent above February 2011 but 5.8 percent
below January 2012.Italian type cheese production totaled 367 million pounds, 4.5 percent above February 2011 but 7.8 percent below
January 2012.
American type cheese production totaled 348 million pounds, 5.7 percent above February 2011 but 6.3 percent below
January 2012.
Butter production was 170 million pounds, 13.9 percent above February 2011 but 5.8 percent below January 2012.
Dry milk powders (comparisons with February 2011)
Nonfat dry milk, human - 171 million pounds, up 54.7 percent.
Skim milk powders - 18.2 million pounds, down 49.7 percent.
Whey products (comparisons with February 2011)
Dry whey, total - 89.3 million pounds, up 9.2 percent.
Lactose, human and animal - 80.6 million pounds, up 7.7 percent.
Whey protein concentrate, total - 35.7 million pounds, up 11.9 percent.
Frozen products (comparisons with February 2011)
Ice cream, regular (hard) - 63.0 million gallons, up 1.9 percent.
Ice cream, lowfat (total) - 30.5 million gallons, up 9.3 percent.
Sherbet (hard) - 3.13 million gallons, up 4.2 percent.
Frozen yogurt (total) - 5.29 million gallons, up 20.0 percent
