Editorial: Ensuring Farmers Benefit From EU Decisions

In the UK, the National Farmers' Union and Farmers For Action have joined forces, calling on the UK government to support the European Commission and the High Level Group.

"We have talked about the opportunities for farmers in the Commission’s dairy package, and are both agreed on the need to lobby Defra strongly to ensure that UK farmers will benefit from the changes," said Farmers for Action chairman David Handley.

Despite milk prices rising in the UK, they are still below the cost of production. The two organisations have also agreed to lobby for fair milk prices.

Co-op Atlantic has announced the construction of a new feed mill in Moncton, Canada, replacing an existing facility which has been in operation since 1946.

The new mill will have a capacity to produce more than 40,000 tons of animal feed per year.

Researchers at Newcastle University, UK, have discovered that organic milk has higher levels of nutritionally beneficial fatty acids compared to ‘ordinary’ milk.
