Editorial: Most Severe FMD Outbreaks In South Korea's History

Agriculture Minister, Yoo Jeaong-bok, has said that the recent cases of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in South Korea, have been the most severe outbreaks in the country's history.

South Korea now plans to revamp its national FMD quarantine regime, so vaccinations can be employed more aggressively.

To date, over two million livestock have been culled.

US beef has been removed from sale by two Taiwanese retail chains following the finding of a banned feed additive in the meat.

The two stores, the hypermarket, RT-Mart and the wholesale members warehouse, Costco, pulled all US beef from their shelves, following news that a banned drug used to promote leanness in meat had been detected in US imported beef.

The Philippines has finally lifted its ban on imports of beef and beef products from Portugal, which means that exporters from all EU Member States can now apply to export such products to the Philippines again.

Malaysia has also lifted its ban on imports of beef and beef products from the EU.
