Editorial: Responsiblity And Cost Sharing Group Will Look At All Options

Beef Expo, an annual show organised by The National Beef Association, took place in the UK last week.

In a conference, Rosemary Radcliffe, independent chair of the Animal Health Responsibility and Cost Sharing Programme Advisory Group said that she wished to earn the trust of the industry and will not be making any decisions without looking at all possible options.

Discussions on responsibility and cost-sharing have been going on for 10 years, however, Mrs Radcliffe said that this is the first time that financial implications of cost sharing have been looked at in depth.

The National Beef Association, although still opposed to any policy that would place a further burden on producers, said that they were pleased to hear that Mrs Radcliffe would not be jumping to any conclusions.

Pfizer Animal Health also launched the opening of their Animal Genetics team for the UK and Europe at the event.

Heather Bessoff White DVM, who heads the new team, said that the opportunities for genomics were endless and these were exciting times for European breeders.

With 87 new cases of foot and mouth disease in Japan over the last week, producers should remember to vigilant with regard to biosecurity.
