Editorial: Eradicating Infectious Diseases

The Australian dairy herd has officially been declared free of Enzootic Bovine Leukosis (EBL).

The national herd will now be monitored for a further three years, after which, providing no problems arise, Australia will receive unconditional EBL freedom.

Minnesota's bovine tuberculosis programme has returned positive results. Whilst universities and state agencies continue to work together, The Minnesota Board of Health is warning producers to continue to use strategies that reduce the risk for disease transmission.

China has announced that it will improve national food safety as part of a two-year project. The government hopes to solve problems with food safety and restore public confidence in products.

Merial has announced that it will merge with Intervet/ Schering-Plough to create a global leader in animal health.
