Zoetis’ Vetscan® MASTIGRAM+ leads the way at SPACE 2023 innovation awards
The simple lateral flow test can be used in just minutes and will detect the pathogen with just 1ml of milkZoetis’ first on-farm mastitis diagnostic Vetscan® Mastigram+ is one of just four innovations recognized by the highest classification at the Innov’Space Awards. The competition, aimed at showcasing the industry’s most significant innovations, was held at the SPACE 2023 exhibition in Rennes, France.
"Having our team’s dedication and hard work recognised by the industry is truly an honour,” said Dave Armstrong, Global Director, Commercial and Medical Lead for Livestock Diagnostics and Global Commercial Development at Zoetis. “We’re really proud of this innovation and the potential it holds in supporting dairy farmers to use more targeted therapy, reduce the usage of antimicrobials and improve their farm’s business operation.”
Vetscan® Mastigram+, Zoetis’ winning product, is the first rapid on-farm mastitis diagnostic. It uses a simple flow dipstick test to detect Gram-positive mastitis in just eight hours, enabling results before the next milking. Because often only Gram-positive cases will benefit from treatment with antimicrobials, a farmer or vet can use this information to deliver more targeted therapy and ensure antimicrobial usage is focused only on cows that need it.
The Innov’Space Awards were first launched at the SPACE exhibition in 1995 and was initially named ‘First Presentation’. The prize-winners are classified in three categories based on the level of value for farmers or end users: 1 star, 2 star, and 3 stars for jury’s special mention (Vetscan® Mastigram+ was in this category). The jury is made up of 50 members being representatives from Chambers of Agriculture, Technical Institutes, INRAE (French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment), INPI (French Institute for patent rights), ANSES, GDS (animal health protection groups), veterinarians, farmers and journalists
