Domestic cheese consumption in New Zealand remains modest at around 40,000 tons, reflecting its smaller population. Consequently, the majority of cheese produced is destined for export markets. This year, New Zealand is anticipated to export approximately 350,000 tons of cheese and reflective of lower forecast production. Key destinations for these exports include China, Japan, and Australia.
