Canada’s dairy, poultry farmers welcome the passing of Bill C-282
C-282 will strengthen supply management, they sayCanada’s dairy, poultry and egg farmers welcomed the passage of Bill C-282, an Act to amend the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act in the House of Commons, according to a joint press release from the organisations.
The bill impacts the supply managed sectors including, dairy, egg, chicken and turkey farmers, as well as hatchery producers. All sectors said they were grateful to the Members of Parliament who supported the legislation.
"We now call on all Senators to show their support for Canada’s dairy, poultry and egg farmers and the millions of Canadians who value fresh, local, made-in-Canada food items by ensuring Bill C-282’s passage in the Senate and into law," the joint statement said.
"This Bill, carefully studied by the House of Commons Standing Committee of International Trade, would safeguard the sustainability of Canadian dairy, poultry, and egg production by preventing further market access concessions in future trade agreements."
"Enacting Bill C-282 into law will not only strengthen and protect Canada’s essential system of supply management; it will present the opportunity to champion growth within Canada’s agricultural sector, and support thousands of jobs and economic activity across our country," the statement continued.
Supply management ensures Canadian dairy, poultry and egg farmers can continue to feed our country with sustainably produced, local, high-quality food now and into the future.
