Brazil cattle prices strained by supply - Cepea
Beef shipments increase 26%The recent supply increase of female animals limited fed cattle prices in different areas of Brazil, according to a recent market report by Cepea.
In late January, values of ready-to-slaughter female animals increased sharply, encouraging producers to deliver these animals.
In January, the CEPEA/B3 Index for fed cattle (São Paulo State) upped 2.2%, closing at BRL 324.45 on January 31. Quotations for female animals, in turn, rose 3.61% in São Paulo, at BRL 305.59.
Although beef sales moved at a slow pace in the second fortnight of January, which is typically a month of low sales, the volume demanded by the retail market surprised players.
The faster pace of weight gaining for female animals compared to male ones in a moment of recovery of pastures ends up limiting the demand for fed cattle to complete delivery windows.
In the first three weeks of January, Brazilian shipments of beef have already increased 26% compared to the volume registered in January 2024, according to Secex, which helps to sustain prices paid for the fed cattle.
