Norman Buxton, chairman of Datag Farm Management Systems and David Hughes of David Hughes Agricultural Consultancy Ltd have written to Tony Blair hoping that he will open a constructive debate on the future of UK milk suppliers.

Mr Buxton and Mr Hughes decided to write after their day-to-day involvement in providing many family farms with IT and consultancy support brought home to them the reality of a situation which showed that many farms are simply running out of cash at an alarming rate.

"With farm gate milk prices 30% lower than ten years ago and spiraling production costs and increasing red tape, the situation can only get worse,” said Mr Buxton.
