The outbreak was initially observed on 2 August and confirmed on 30 August after a reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was conducted at the Senegalese Institute for Agricultural Research (ISRA). The test confirmed the presence of the FMD virus (serotype O).

A total of 1473 animals were found susceptible, out of which 1176 cases were reported. Out of the 1176 affected animals, 123 animals were found dead. None of the animals were killed and disposed of, while ten were slaughtered.

Some of the measures applied include vaccination (if a vaccine exists). However, none of the affected animals have received treatment. No further measures have been applied so far.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
