Rise in Number of Cattle, Pigs in Korea During Q2
SOUTH KOREA - The number of livestock in South Korea rose on-year in the second quarter of 2018 due to more calves being bred, government data showed Thursday.Yonhap News Agency reports that the data by Statistics Korea showed there were 3.06 million cattle in the country at the end of June, up 1 per cent, or 31,000 head, from a year earlier.
Pigs moved up 1 per cent on-year, or 117,000, to 11.3 million.
The rise in the number of cattle was caused by more calves being bred in the country in the wake of price hikes, the data showed.
Compared with a year before, higher market demand caused more cattle and sows to be bred, which pushed up overall numbers, the statistics office said.
