Brazil’s government expects China to spend eighteen times more on Brazilian beef this year than they did prior to an atypical case of BSE derailed beef trade.

Agriculture minister Katia Abreu told the Chinese press that 2,000 tonnes of fresh beef had been cleared for export.

She emphasised the ‘large potential’ Brazil’s product had in the Chinese market.

June saw a trade mission led by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (APEX-Brazil) visit Shanghai and Beijing to promote Brazilian beef.

APEX-Brazil manager, Ana Paula Repezza, said: "We hope we can get back into the market and show the Chinese consumer all health requirements have been met and Brazilian meat is a distinguished high quality product.”
