Charolais Popular at Northern Irish Sale
NORTHERN IRELAND - The recent Dungannon bull sale reported high demand for Charolais bulls with 29 sales averaging £3067 and peaking at 5,400 guineas.Eight heifers averaged £2139 with female and reserve supreme champion selling for 3,000 guineas on Friday 6 March.
Bull Sales
The reserve senior male champion, Tullygarley Imp TI +54 SRI +54 a 19 month old Blelack Digger son bred and exhibited by J and R Currie, Ballymena, Co Antrim, sold for the top price of 5,400gns to Pat Fox, Carrickmore, Co Tyrone.
The second top price of 4,600gns was paid by John McPartland, Newry, Co Down for the 18 months old Ballyoak Iceman by the 15,000gns Carlisle champion Burradon Talisman, from S and A McKenna, Clogher, Co Tyrone.
The male and supreme champion Drumlone Invader TI +46 SRI +34 by Cottage Devon from Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw, Co Fermanagh sold for 4,500gns to Andrew Canning Dungiven, Co Derry.
At 4,200gns came Topline International the junior and reserve male champion. This 16 month old son of the Balmoral show champion Rumsden Fawkes was exhibited by N O’Kane, Cookstown, Co Tyrone and was purchased by Malcom Fleming, Magherafelt, Co Derry.
Next for LA Richardson and Sons, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh was the Blelack Digger son, Hillviewfarm Iceman TI +50 SRI +47, a 15 month old purchased by Ivan Wright, Garvagh, Co Down for 3,700gns.
Two 18 month old Blelack Digger embryo transplant sons were amongst the top prices for C O McAskie, Omagh, Co Tyrone. Mountjoy Icecube TI +69 SRI +67 was sold to Jonathan Muldoon, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh for 3,600gns and his full brother Mountjoy Icebreaker TI +68 SRI +66 achieved 3,100gns from GJ Devine, Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone.
Solitude Ingot TI +37 SRI +34 from J and W McMordie, Newtownards, Co Down, was knocked down sold to Derek Johnston, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh at 3,400gns. This 16 month old is by Oldstone Egbert while his dam Goldstar Guadlupe was senior female champion at the NI National Charolais show.
Selling to Ian Smyth, Castlewellan, Co Down for 3,300gns was the 18 month old class winner, Drumconnis Imense TI +54 SRI +33 by Newhouse Bigal, from J McGrath, Omagh, Co Tyrone.
Two bulls sold for 3,000gns. The first was purchased by Oscar Clingen, Augher, Co Tyrone, the 19 month old Tedd Ivan TI +38 SRI +30 by the 13,000gns junior Royal Highland show champion Kelton Trident from S Hunter, Irvinestown, Co Fermanagh.
Next was the 15 month old Newhouse Bigal son Drumacritten Ivan from W and M Nelson, Rosslea, Co Fermanagh. He was bought by John Kellt, Ballymena, Co Antrim.
Female Section
Top price of 3,000gns in the female section went to the female and reserve supreme Charolais champion, Drumacritten Irene TI +50 SRI +38 from W and M Nelson, Rosslea, Co Fermanagh. This 15 month old maiden, the youngest heifer entry and a daughter of the 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal, was purchased by Gilbert Crawford, Maghera, Co Londonderry.
Two heifers made 2,500gns. The first was the 23 month old, Moorlough Ivy by the 19,000gns Corrie Alan, from J McBride, Strabane, Co Tyrone and purchased by Robert Watters, Stewartstown, Co Tyrone. Harold Stubbs and Andrew Burleigh, Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh sold the 20 month old Derryharney Innocent TI +21 SRI +15 by the 10,000gns Perth champion Thrunton Bonjovi to Hugh Ruthledge Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh.
