Farmers Given Winter Mycotoxin Warning
UK – Warm humid weather this summer means farmers should be aware of an increased risk of feedstuffs being contaminated with mycotoxins.

Vigilance can avoid drops in cattle fertility, as well as in milk yield and butterfat levels, as well as mycotoxins threatening cow immunity, increasing somatic cell counts.
This warning follows an analysis of last year’s UK forages showing 75 per cent of samples contained mycotoxins, of which 90 per cent tested positive for multiple mycotoxins.
The results, gathered by Micron Bio-systems, could be worse for 2014, warned AB Vista’s technical director Dr Derek Mcllmoyle.
“Unfortunately, this summer’s warm, humid conditions are likely to make the problem even worse.
“Remember that even very low levels of two or three different mycotoxins can have an additive effect, and be more damaging than a single mycotoxin at higher levels.”
