Ministers met last week to begin negotiating on two central factors, the power of the digester on the farm and the number of dairy cows to be permitted.

Complaints have been made about the proposed digester and the scale of the herd.

Herds over 500 head require the filing of an application, with herds of 900 or more requiring the passing of a mandatory public inquiry, states a bill from February last year.

The project leader limited the digester to a size of 0.6 megawatts, denying passage of the desired 1.34 megawatt unit at the request of protestors.

A government spokesperson said the meeting had helped ‘ease tensions’.
