India Holds Workshop on Brucellosis

INDIA - A ‘Network Project on Brucellosis’ was organized jointly by Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU), Gujarat and National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), Bengaluru atAhmadabad on 8 August, 2014.

While inaugurating the workshop, the chief guest, Shri Babubhai B. Bokhiriya, Minister for Agriculture, Co-operation, Water Resources, Water Supply, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Cow Breeding, Govt. of Gujarat, expressed his gratitude to DBT and NIVEDI for organizing the meet in Gujarat and assured extending all possible help in prevention and control of livestock diseases including Brucellosis in Gujarat.

Dr H. Rahman, Project Coordinator and Director, NIVEDI briefed on the activities being carried out for implementation of Brucellosis Control programme in the country. He highlighted the impact of animal health in general and Brucellosis in particular on the economy and livelihood and food security of the country.

Dr S.R. Rao, Advisor, DBT emphasised the need for the control of brucellosis and urged state officials to implement the Brucella-Free village concept, which can be replicated in other parts of country in the near future.

Prof Ashok A Patel, Vice-Chancellor, SDAU appreciated the efforts made by DBT for grooming young professionals who would be contributing for better tomorrow. He assured all support and encouragement to the group working in his university.

Earlier, Dr N.M. Shah, Dean, Veterinary Faculty, SDAU welcomed the dignitaries and participants from different parts of the country.

Dr N.C. Patel, Vice-Chancellor, Anand Agricultural University, Dr. H.N. Kher, Director, HRD and Registrar, SDAU and Dr. R.R. Shah, Director of Research and Dean PG Studies, SDAU also shared their views.

The present scenario of Brucellosis disease, prevention and control measures in the country were reviewed. Scientist and Researchers from ICAR institutes, State Agricultural University (SAU)/ State Veterinary University (SVU) and Industries from 12 states participated in the workshop.
