Foot and Mouth Outbreak in Chinese Pigs

CHINA - An outbreak of FMD has been reported in a small pig herd in Jiangsu province in eastern China.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 4 July to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It describes an outbreak of FMD in Sihong in Jiangu province on 23 June. Three animals of a herd of nine pigs were affected.

This is the first FMD outbreak since July 2013.

The usual control measures have been imposed: stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, vaccination in response to the outbreak, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) and dipping/spraying. Affected animals are not being treated.
