Top BSE Status Granted to Argentina
ARGENTINA – A southern hemisphere food standards delegation has praised efforts put in place by government bodies to prevent and monitor Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).Representatives of Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) concluded a tour of Argentinian cattle and meat handling facilities last week, ruling the country warranted level one status – the best BSE category.
FSANZ praised the National Health and Food Quality Service for work on cattle identification, traceability, protocols at animal feed plants and vigilance at the slaughtering and rendering stages.
During the trip, the auditors visited a slaughter and rendering plant in Cordoba, a refrigeration facility and two ruminant feed plants in Salto.
