Australian Beef Exports to Japan Ease in March
JAPAN - The improved US beef access since February 2013 has been impacting Australian trade with Japan, which continued to be the case during March, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.

Shipments of Australian brisket to Japan during the month declined 6 per cent from last year to 4,109 tonnes, affected by inroads of US shortplate into the market, and combined with ongoing demand from China.
Additionally, Australia shipped 22,613 tonnes of beef to Japan during March, down seven per cent year-on-year, with major declines in 90CL (down 73 per cent or 257 tonnes, to 96 tonnes) and topside (down 19 per cent or 277 tonnes, to 1,192 tonnes).
While the proportion of beef exports to Japan out of total shipments in March 2014 decreased to 21 per cent (from 28 per cent in 2013), it is interesting to note that the proportion of total chilled exports that Japan accounted for was 51 per cent (eight percentage points higher than last year), at 10,777 tonnes (down seven per cent).
