What Can Chelated Minerals Do For Cattle?
GLOBAL - Feeding chelated minerals is a decision that can pay off in terms of calf performance as well as improved cow health.Dr Dennis Nuzbach, technical adviser at Novus International, told TheCattleSite that feeding chelated minerals can improve carcase quality, as well as maintaining cattle health through assisting trace element absorption.
He said the effect on calves could be around $100 per head sold.
This claim comes from University of Georgia cow/calf trials that showed more calves from cows fed chelated products graded low choice or above compared to progeny from cows without chelated minerals in their diet.
This was a bonus on top of the expected benefits of supporting a healthy and functioning dam.
Dr Nuzbach highlighted the cow/calf transition chelated minerals achieved via building up minerals in the calf liver.
