FMD Outbreak in Tibet; Animals Receive Vaccination
CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Tibet.

According to reports sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the affected population comprises cattle and sheep.
A total of 591 cattle were found susceptible, out of which 52 cases were reported. All 591 animals were destroyed.
The OIE, in conjunction with the country's competent authorities, carried out vaccination of livestock. A total of 51345 cattle, 348 sheep/goats and 1124 pigs were vaccinated.
Apart from the vaccinations, other control measures were also applied. These measures include stamping out, quarantine, movement control within the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) and dipping/spraying.
The virus sub-type was identified as SEA 97 G2, the OIE reports. However, the source of the outbreak(s) remains inconclusive.
