The water footprint guide joins the carbon footprint guide in the IDF’s commitment to ensure ‘environmentally sound’ and ‘socially responsible’ milk production.

IDF President, Dr Jeremy Hill said: “I am very pleased with the leading role IDF is playing in addressing the environmental challenges facing the dairy sector. The forthcoming IDF water footprint guide will, I am sure, enable all stakeholders in the sector to set comparable benchmarks for measuring the water footprint of their dairy products.”

He added that 2010 saw the launch of the ‘Common Carbon Footprint Approach to Diary’ and that more is yet to come.

“A similar approach has been taken to our work in other areas such as water and biodiversity. This new water guide is a concrete outcome of that decision,” concluded Dr Hill.
