Energy Costs to Drop Thanks to New Software
SPAIN - A new energy consumption analysis programme is making farmers collaborate to reduce energy requirements.Enerlacteo has so far used statistics on farm characteristics, diesel consumption and electricity tariffs from 160 businesses to establish five characteristics of energy use - A-E.
Volunteers from the dairying heartland of Asturias, Galicia and Castilla y Leon have taken part in the programme to address the rising problem of energy costs in farm accounts.
Speaking at a promotional launch of the system at Expobioenergia in Valladolid on Thursday María José Tabernero, Agricultural Technical Institute of Technology of Castile and Leon (Itacyl) said: "The application was developed in a project called prospecting, analysis and dissemination of saving measures and energy efficiency in the dairy cattle sector."
A 'good practice handbook' is the goal of the 160 farm audit which is part of the the National Rural Framework.
Enerlacteo is a government response to rising energy prices over the past two decades as autmoted technologies have appeared on farms.
