Buoyant trading results can be attributed to Brazil’s primary beef buyer, Hong Kong.

Hong Kong buying grew 71 per cent to 209,700 tonnes, equivalent to $830.3 million.

Overall shipment tonnage reached 132,400 tonnes, grossing US$577 million.

This comes with data for the first half of the year that reports a 14.5 per cent increase in beef exports, worth US$3.126 billion. Volumes corresponded, up 21 per cent from 666,300 to 807,200 tonnes between January and June 2013.

"The volume of beef exports in July was the highest since September 2008, when we managed to negotiate 134,900 tonnes," said Antonio Jorge Camardelli, president of ABIEC.
