More FMD Outbreaks Reported in Zimbabwe
ZAMBIA - The Zimbabwean veterinary authorities have reported two further outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Masvingo and Manicaland affecting cattle.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 3 on 15 July.
A total of 5762 animals were found susceptible out of which 1335 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed.
Illegal movement of animals and contact with wild species have been identified as the main sources of the outbreaks.
On the same date (15 July), the OIE received another follow-up report (No. 4) stating that no further outbreaks of FMD have taken place.
A reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was carried out at the Central Veterinary Laboratory (National laboratory) but the result is still pending.
According to the OIE's fourth follow-up report, cattle in Umguza district are still under quarantine and can only move for direct slaughter.
No new cases have been detected.
