Farmers Praised For Recycling Record
NEW ZEALAND – Farmers in the Waikato region, New Zealand’s dairying heartland, have been praised for showing great commitment to recycling after collecting a record amount of hazardous chemicals.

Under the Agrecover recycling scheme – which finished last week – Waikato’s farmers have collected six tonnes of agricultural, horticultural and veterinary chemicals.
The haul is five times greater than last year and has prompted plaudits from Farmers Associations.
James Houghton, Federated Farmers’ Waikato provincial president said the council has had a large part to play in the success of the scheme.
“Farmers are choosing to dispose of their chemical waste responsibly due to the convenience of the service,” said Mr Houghton.
“It is great to see increasing numbers of farmers using Agrecovery. It is another example of farmers changing their behaviour and working for the good of the environment without the need for legislation.
“Being environmentally friendly does not come free, so the money invested by our local councils enables the program to work and gain traction, which, as you can see, is having the desired outcome.”
Anyone wanting to dispose of waste chemicals from their farm or garden can do so by contacting Agrecovery and arranging a pick-up at the next colection date.
