OIE Reports New FMD Outbreaks in Mongolia
MONGOLIA - The Mongolian veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Bayan-Ölgii Province, affecting cattle, goats and sheep.

The World Organisation for Animal Health was sent an immediate notification on Tuesday, 9 July. According to the report, the outbreaks were initially observed on 4 July and pre-confirmed on 5 July.
The outbreaks were finally confirmed and reported to the country's concerned authorities on Monday, 8 July, after enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), liquid-phase blocking ELISA, non-structural protein ELISA, real-time reverse transcriptase/polymerase chain reaction (RRT-PCR) and reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests were conducted on cattle at the State Central Veterinary Laboratory.
While some of the test results are pending, three of them confirmed the presence of the FMD virus in the region.
The report states that a total of 417 cattle were found susceptible to the FMD virus, out of which 15 cases were reported. All 15 affected animals were destroyed.
The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
