Bolivian Cattle Clear of FMD In Over 50 Municipalities
BOLIVIA – Cattle farmers have received good news following a meeting of the World Organisation for Animal Health which ruled 50 Bolivian municipalities free of foot and mouth disease (FMD) including the areas of Chuquisaca, Potosi and Tarija. In total the certification, issued last week, saw 10 municipalities in Chiquitania, Santa Cruz and 58 in La Paz, Oruro and Potosi.
Christian Fernandez, National Director of the National Food Security and Food Safety Organisation said that the ruling would free up meat exports. By confirming that Bolivian cattle are healthy, prices will be boosted for farmers and any surplus of meat can be exported.
"It is worthwhile for all Bolivians because livestock producers at all levels benefit from the animal health policies implemented by the national government of President Evo Morales. The Ministry are noting the announcement with a view to boost free exports of meat and meat products.”
