The funding scheme was announced by Agriculture Minister, Norberto Yuahar at a conference attended by the regional and national governors and over 500 producers.

As part of the scheme, FUNBAPA is trialling improved surveillance and traceability schemes by implanting chips into animal hides. Stock theft has been an issue for some producers with cattle being taken from corrals on some holdings.

At the conference Minister Yuahar outlined the territory to be kept pest and disease free as the land south of the Barrancas and Colorado Rivers.

It is hoped by May next year, that the World Organisation for Animal Health has certified the region as foot and mouth disease free.
