Chinese Dairy Imports Up Across All Derivatives
CHINA – Recent trends for Chinese shoppers to buy more milk has resulted in a dairy import increase of a fifth with New Zealand being the main supplier.Last year, 1.32 million tons of dairy products worth $4.974 million were imported into the Chinese market. This is an increase of 21 per cent in volume and 25 per cent in value on 2011 figures.
Volume increases were seen across the board for all dairy derivatives, Argentina Agriculture and Livestock Department figures show.
Milk and cream powder led the increase at over half a million tonnes with whey following (376,000).
Following New Zealand’s considerable market share of 45 per cent is the US (10 per cent), the Netherlands (8 per cent) and France (7 per cent).
Dairy imports from Argentina lifted by 1 per cent last year worth $63 million. This was driven by greater sales of cheese whey.
