Dairy Safety Demands Continue to Grow
GERMANY – Frustration is building in the dairy sector over the lack of a workable ‘safety net’ policy to provide producers with support.According to the German Farmers Association (DBV) a comprehensive dairy policy is required to offer farmers protection at times of ‘severe price collapses’.
The DBV is demanding that all dairymen are given the opportunity to strengthen their market positions and bargaining power whilst also being afforded the security of ‘crisis assistance’.
What this would entail is facilitation of producer organisations to pool milk with ‘crisis’ abatement measures coming in the form of insurance, compensations against risk and income protection on commodities futures.
Over the past few days the DBV has lobbied ‘trialogue’ Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) discussion.
The Commission responded by saying that their interests are to work for agriculture that is competitive on regional, EU and global levels.
