Policy Measures Attributable For Milk Delivery and Price Rise
SPAIN – Policy changes are starting to take effect in the Spanish milk market as deliveries are up 2.89 per cent and farm gate prices up 1.81 per cent on December.This is according to Food, Agriculture and Environment Director General, Fernando Burgaz who yesterday announced that the government’s objectives remain to provide a ‘transparent’ sector, delivering fair trade terms and prices.
The message was delivered to a dairy industry collective of processors, distributors and farmers who were assembled to consider the progression of the dairy milk package, a policy started late last year.
Mr Burgaz was pleased to announce an average price of €0.337/litre had been achieved but plans have been made to improve the sector further.
Future plans include a ‘Welcome to the Countryside’ label to add value to farm produce through a marketing strategy targeted at Spanish consumers.
Furthermore, an agreement monitoring committee was discussed that pledged to;
- Strengthen quality assurance measures in the sector
- Work to restructure supply chains so value is distributed differently
- Improve market and consumer information sharing nationally
