Robots Cause Milk Yield Fall
SWEDEN - After the installation of robotic, automatic milking systems cow yields have been shown to fall, a seminar at Sweden's first ever Robot conference has revealed.

The drop in milk yield takes an average of five years to nullify, said Mikael Bakstrom of the Federation of Swedish Farmers, to the Robot conference in Elmia, Jönköping earlier this week.
Verdicts point to inappropriate regularity and method of milking for the production decline.
This negative impact, which has been charted since the first robots entered farms 15 years ago, was said to not have been observed in the UK however. Instead production has increased following the introduction of automatic milking machines.
An assembled audience of over 300 producers and industry figures was shocked to learn about the detrimental consequences suffered by farmers trying to modernise their systems.
Also speaking at the robot conference was Bas Van Santen from Lely Atlantic, a dairy technology company. Mr Van Santen added that his experience of UK dairying has shown a yield increase to be seen after 6-8 weeks of installation on UK farms.
