Russia Again Crowned Largest Buyer of Beef and Pork for 2012
PARAGUAY – Russia has again topped the Paraguay pork and beef export list after acquiring over half of the total chilled and frozen beef products produced in 2012.
With an export volume of 114,300 tonnes valued at $USD 568.5 million Russia is the most significant supporter of Paraguayan beef, standing well clear of Brazil (22,400 tonnes), Angola (6900 tonnes) and Israel (5,700) tonnes.
Through November and December of 2012, 70 per cent of beef products were exported to Russia. Over the same period Brazil and Angola each accounted for 4 per cent and Israel took 3 per cent.
Russia's performance in the market was related to offal consumption, with around 9,000 tonnes of lower grade cuts being bought worth USD $33.9 million. Hong Kong continued to be another considerable offal buyer through 2012 worth $USD 37.3 million in offal exports.
Also the biggest buyer of Paraguayan pork, Russia imported 1000 tons with a value of $USD 3.026 million in 2012.
