Central, Eastern Europe Vist UK Beef Expo
UK - During Beef Expo 2012 next week, a group of group of industry leaders from Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans will visit the UK for a study tour/ trade mission.Eblex is providing financial support for the visit, which has been arranged by the British Livestock Genetics Consortium.
UK cattle breed societies have helped organise the visit, with particular help from the Galloway Cattle Society.
The group visiting are mainly interested in hill and mountain breeds of cattle and particularly dual purpose breeds (dairy beef) or breeds that have been dual purpose in their not so distant past.
Of particular interest are hardy Scottish Breeds, Galloway, Highland and Angus with also interest in Simmentals
given their original development in the Swiss Alps.
Armenian visitors are in the process of selecting Galloway
cattle for a project based near Halavar in the high border region between Armenia, Georgia and Azabaijan.
Two members of the mission, from Latvia and Poland have already established Galloway farms and looking
for additional animals. Georgian guests are from their Ministry and seek new solutions for their own hill and
mountain regions.
The Polish Group is drawn from leaders of the newly established QMP Quality Assurance Programme. Their
main interest is in cross breeding British and Continental Bulls with the Polish National Dairy Herd.
