Welfare Complaint at Two Indonesian Abattoirs
AUSTRALIA - The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has today received a complaint of alleged animal welfare concerns at two Indonesian abattoirs.
Officers in the department are reviewing footage of the alleged animal welfare issues and are checking if the abattoirs operate under an exporter supply chain assurance system.
The Embassy has informed relevant officials in Indonesia of the receipt of the complaint.
The new regulatory framework was designed to deal with such occurrences and incorporates a process for investigations and management of non-compliances.
The Australian and Indonesian Governments will cooperate to ensure that process is followed.
