Ten More Anthrax Outbreaks Reported In Italy

ITALY - There have been 10 further outbreaks of anthrax, all in the same region of Basilicata.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 1 dated 22 September to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes a further 10 outbreaks of anthrax on farms in the region of Basilicata in southern Italy, starting between 6 and 18 September.

Cattle were affected on most of the farms, along with sheep, goats and horses. Twelve of the total of 213 cattle affected died.

The source of infection has not been identified.
