NZ Beef Looks To Export Oppotunities
NEW ZEALAND - Looking at the beef sector, in 2011, the recently released Rabobank report says there is room for farm gate prices to improve on 2010 average levels as offshore prices remain attractive, particularly in new markets. However, this could be tempered by the strength of the New Zealand dollar.“The high dollar will keep exporters focused on looking for opportunistic and attractive market expansion, such as Russia, China and Indonesia,” Rabobank senior analyst Hayley Moynihan says.
“For producers, the prospect of a further lift in average beef prices will be welcomed after relatively stagnant returns since 2008.”
Domestically, greater demand for feed grains is expected to flow through to higher prices, particularly as poor seasonal conditions are also weighing on lower local grain production expectations in 2011.
