Mexican Dairy Sector: Improving Performance
MEXICO - The expanding Mexican dairy sector offers opportunities for investments on improving the performance of the large semi-specialised and dual-purpose cow farmers. This can be achieved by enhancing farmers' capabilities in feed and cattle management, milk production control per cow and milking infrastructure, according to Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
Levelling the seasonality of the milk supply will improve the Mexican self-sufficiency on dairy products. Furthermore a focussed agenda setting strategy is required.
This strategy needs to be shared by all chain actors and organisations, to enhance the Mexican dairy industry as a whole.
Major possibilities for Dutch organisations in Mexico are to enhance the capabilities in feed and cattle management, to provide improved grass seed, semen and embryos and to export final dairy products like cheese.
