Brazil Beef Exports Down In April
BRAZIL - Brazilian beef exports during April fell two per cent to 78,427 tonnes swt when compared with March and were eight per cent below April 2009, mainly the result of tight cattle supplies, dearer prices, and competition from the domestic market.

Exports to Russia recovered 20 per cent month-on-month to 25,843 tonnes swt as a result of higher quotes in that market after the distribution of the remaining 75 per cent of the import quota among local traders, improved economic stability and low stocks, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.
Exports to Iran, Brazil’s second largest market decreased 14 per cent in March to 15,093 tonnes swt, but remained 303 per cent higher year-on-year, as high demand in this market is expected to remain throughout 2010.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian industry remains focused in opening new markets this year, with Turkey recently announcing the commencing of beef imports from Brazil. The Turkish government is yet to specify their import conditions, probably with import licences or quotas.
