Bill Cawling, Show Director told TheCattleSite that cattle entries for the 2010 show had been excellent.

He put this down to a number of factors including the rising profile of the Great Yorkshire Show as well as the demise of a number of other shows, including The Royal Show (formerly held at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire) and other county agricultural shows.

A number of cattle classes have moved from the Royal to the Great Yorkshire, increasing the variety of cattle displayed.

Indeed cattle entries, which were always popular, have increased substantially. This year the show will put up additional temporary cattle accommodation to house an extra hundred cattle.

But this is not enough - Mr Cawling said there is still a waiting list for a number of classes.

He also said that visitor numbers last year reached an all time high, and that the number of exhibitors increases year on year.

"We want to maintain the agricultural content of our show - as that is what we are about," Mr Cawling said. He highlighted that those who had taken a different route, had in general been less successful.

"We want to show the public how agriculture fits into the food chain."

Alongside the substantial livestock sheds, the show features a large food hall but there will also be commercial stalls for the public as well as the mainring attractions.

The 152nd Great Yorkshire Show will take place from 13th - 15th of July, at the showground in Harrogate.
