The urine of this variety of cows found in the interior areas of the state has a richer herbal residue content compared to that from cows found in the plains. And the idea is to use the urine in manufacturing ayurvedic medicines.

Ayurvedic chemists vouch for the medicinal properties of distilled cow urine.

''Cow urine has the same potential like Ciplox and Amoxicilin in Allopathic medicines to fight diseases,'' said Rakesh Bahuguna, Ayurvedic Chemist.

Cattle owners have reason to be happy. Each litre of cow urine they sell will fetch them 5 rupees.

''Villagers will benefit from the programme as milk is not sold throughout the year,'' said Pyari Devi, Farmer.

For the time being ayurvedic pharmacies like the Patanjali Yogpeeth and Geeta Bhawan have volunteered to buy the product. The government plans to create a market, where cattle owners will directly interact with eager buyers.
