Brazilian Beef Exports Hit Record High
BRAZIL - Brazilian beef exports reached $4.418 billion last year - a 13 per cent increase on the previous year, according to figures from the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association ABIEC.The export volumes grew by five per cent to 2.5 million tonnes.
ABIEC said the results keep Brazil as the leading beef exporter in the world and the association president Marcus Vinicius Pratini de Moraes said they had achieved their objective to grow their trade in higher value products.
He added that trade over the last year was also diverse exporting to 182 countries.
The main export markets for Brazilian beef were Russia, Egypt and the Netherlands.
For the coming year Mr Pratini expects a growth of between 10 and 12 per cent in value and four per cent in volume.
However, ABIEC is already seeing a slight reduction in exports to the EU this year because of the recent block on exports.
Over the last year Brazil's total agricultural exports reached $49.7 billion and they have grown by 236 per cent since 2000.
