The French agriculture ministry said that the incidence occurred in cattle on farms in Chambon sur Voueze, in Creuse, Chaulieu in Manche, Monestier in Allier, Lempdes in Puy-de-Dôme and Combourg in Ille-et-Vilaine.

Just one animal was discovered to have the disease on each farm, but the outbreak has threatened a total of 510 cattle on the farms.

The authorities have established control measures including movement controls and screening of animals.
