MPs Visit South West To See Badger Cull Preparations
UK - A group of MPs was due to visit South West England yesterday to witness at first hand the preparations being made by farmers for a badger culling policy.Members of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee were scheduled to meet farmers from Devon and Cornwall who have signed up in principle to a cull over an area of about 500 sq.km, surrounded by ‘hard physical boundaries’.
Over 1,000 farmers have put their names forward in an initiative the NFU and National Beef Association hope will demonstrate the industry’s commitment to a culling policy to Ministers and the EFRA committee.
The EFRA committee is holding an inquiry into the Independent Scientific Group on bovine TB’s final report on badgers and bovine TB.
