IFA Welcomes EU Proposal to Reduce Cost Of BSE Testing
IRELAND - IFA national Livestock Chairman John Bryan this week welcomed the proposal from the EU Commission to increase the age limit for BSE testing from 30 months to 42 months of age. He said this will remove all prime beef cattle from the €20 per head testing cost.Mr Bryan said the IFA has for some time been working both in Brussels and at Government level to have the 30-month age limit increased. He said this change is long overdue.
The IFA livestock leader said Minister Coughlan must insist on a speedy introduction of the EU proposal, as livestock farmers cannot tolerate paying expensive BSE testing charges any longer.
