UK - The government has insisted that it will not make any decision on the problem of bovine TB until scientists deliver their report on the matter this summer.

The announcement was made by Animal Welfare Minister Ben Bradshaw, after the Conservative party called for an immediate comprehensive package of measures to tackle bovine TB.

Mr Bradshaw said there were no simple solutions and promised that the announcement, when it came, would be based on what was "practicable and deliverable".

Michael Jack, Tory chairman of the environment, food and rural affairs select committee, raised the issue at a House of Commons question time. He pointed out that the consultation exercise into ways of controlling TB in cattle was now approaching its 58th week, while in the meantime herd restrictions were "at the highest level for a decade" at a cost to taxpayers of £90 million a year.
